No intermediary, no Internet Service Provider (ISP), no network eavesdropper, and **not even ThinkNCollab media routing servers** have access to the cryptographic keys required to decrypt your messages or media streams.

## 1. Client-Side Chat Vault (AES-256-GCM)

All text messages, replies, code blocks, and system notifications in ThinkNCollab are protected by client-side cryptographic vaults:

* **Client-Side Envelope Encryption**: Every message is encrypted directly inside the sender's browser using **AES-256-GCM** before reaching any network socket or WebSocket transport.
* **Persistent Isolated KeyStore**: Encryption keys are derived client-side and saved into an isolated browser **IndexedDB Vault (`tnc_e2ee_vault`)**. Keys never leave the local device.
* **Zero Plaintext on Databases**: Databases and real-time socket relays store and forward strictly cryptographic ciphertext payloads (`e2ee:<base64-envelope>`). In the event of an unauthorized database dump, the stored records remain unreadable ciphertext.
* **Hardware Accelerated Speed**: Encryption and decryption execute in parallel via native browser hardware cryptography (**Web Crypto API**), maintaining zero perceptible chat latency.

## 2. WebRTC Insertable Streams Media Encryption (SFrame Standard)

Video meetings, voice discussions, and high-definition screen sharing are protected by frame-level insertable streams cryptography:

* **Frame-Level Payload Protection**: Microphone audio frames, webcam video streams, and screen sharing pixels are intercepted prior to WebRTC packetization and encrypted using **AES-256-GCM** with unique 12-byte per-frame initialization vectors.
* **SFU Zero-Knowledge Relay**: Selective Forwarding Units (mediasoup) inspect only minimal routing headers (such as spatial layers and sequence numbers) while the media content remains completely inaccessible to the routing server.
* **Man-in-the-Middle Immunity**: Ephemeral session keys are negotiated securely via cryptographic handshakes. Intermediaries on the network cannot capture or decode raw audio or video feeds.
* **Uncompromised HD Quality**: Codec bitstreams (VP8, H.264, Opus) maintain full hardware acceleration across macOS, Windows, iOS, and Android without stream degradation or dropped frames.

## 3. Cryptographic Safety Fingerprint

Inspired by Signal and WhatsApp verification standards, every ThinkNCollab room and video conference includes an independent **60-digit Security Number**:

* Generated dynamically via **SHA-512 cryptographic hashing** of room secrets and device fingerprints.
* Displayed as **12 blocks of 5 digits** (e.g. `48921 03948 10293 ...`).
* Participants can click the **E2EE Active** badge at any time to compare security numbers and independently verify channel integrity.
